The Suzuki Method

What is the Suzuki method?

The Suzuki method of learning to play a musical instrument was developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki in Japan after World War I. Dr. Suzuki envisioned a world where people of all ages, especially children, could play musical instruments, cultivating loving characters and peaceful relationships.

Practically, the Suzuki method is rooted in what Dr. Suzuki called the “mother-tongue” method, in which children learn their instrument the same way they learn to speak their native language. That is, they learn from a very young age through environmental exposure (listening, attending performances, etc), repetition, encouragement, and parental involvement.
